New Managing Director for Sun Microsystems Australia and New Zealand

Sydney, Australia, Wellington – 3 April 2008 - Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: JAVA) today announced the appointment of Duncan Bennet to the role of Vice President and Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). Following a three month acting period, Bennet has taken up the permanent position and will be responsible for the overall growth strategy ofthe local business.

“For me, it’s a fascinating time to be at Sun. We have the strongest ever product and services portfolio, which means we can now support a much wider range of customers and partners - from the large enterprise to the small business. Sun today is so much more exciting than even during the days of the dot.com boom, therefore making the ANZ leadership role very, very attractive to me,” said Duncan Bennet, Managing Director, Sun Microsystems ANZ.

Designed to support business consolidation, systems virtualisation and green IT requirements, Sun’s offerings range from AMD™, Intel™ and SPARC™ processor-based server technology to disk and tape storage, thin clients, software and services. Through recent agreements with Acer and joint initiatives with Intel, Sun is driving growth through its partner community to expand focus into the entry-level market.

The integration of MySQL, the world’s fastest growing open source database, means Sun is able to provide greater choice for open source applications. The combination gives customers a powerful end-to-end system for developing Web 2.0 applications, without any of the licensing costs or restrictions.

“As the largest contributor to the open source movement, Sun is committed to the business model at the heart of MySQL's success - to first invest in communities of users and developers and then create commercial services without customer lock in. With more multi-national companies developing software in-house and then open sourcing them the trust and uptake in open source applications will continue to grow,” said Bennet.

“Since joining the company through the Forte Software acquisition in 1999, Duncan has made a great impact on Sun ANZ. In the three and a half years since Duncan became Director of Sales, he and his team have produced year-on-year local sales growth and contributed to the turnaround of Sun,” commented Denis Heraud, President, Asia Pacific, Sun Microsystems.

Prior to this current role, Duncan held a number of positions at Sun including Director of Sales and the Managing Director of Sun's software joint venture with Netscape called iPlane

Duncan has more than 30 years of experience in the technology and software development industry and has been involved in several start-ups for US-based technology companies, such as Pyramid Technology, Prime Computer and Forte Software.

Duncan has a Bachelor of Business degree majoring in Data Processing from Massey University in New Zealand.
