Less Support or Less Compatibility: Other companies force you to choose.
In July 2007, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 will enter the maintenance support phase, which means only security errata and mission critical bug fixes will be released from that point forward. Red Hat customers must decide whether to continue running key components of their data centers and Web tier infrastructures with diminished OS support, or upgrade to RHEL 4 - without any guarantee of compatibility with existing applications and infrastructure.
A better option: Transition to Solaris.
Free to use and deploy and built on open source, the Solaris 10 Operating System is the most advanced OS on the planet. It runs across more systems and supports more applications than RHEL 4, and comes with three levels of cost-efficient, subscription-based support that
cost up to 50% less
than equivalent Red Hat offerings. What's more, Solaris 10 is still the only OS that
guarantees application compatibility
between releases - critical to ensuring continuous availability of today's IT operations - and features performance-enhancing technologies Red Hat just can't match.
Why should you move?
It's easy
Keep your global enterprise running 24x7.When you think UNIX, you think Solaris. It's the standard by which other open systems environments are measured, which means that the applications you want and the tools you need are all there. And because Linux and UNIX spring from a common ancestry, you'll find that transitioning to Solaris 10 is the right decision. If you're already a Solaris shop, we don't need to tell you that the Solaris OS delivers exactly the same functionality whether it's running on a SPARC system or x64/x86 servers from Dell, HP, IBM, Sun and many others.
But we know doing anything different in your datacentre requires careful attention; that's why we've created a set of guides and other documentation to cover any questions you might have. We've also engineered a comprehensive suite of tools and services to help you safely move to Solaris 10 while staying focused on your core business. Our Enterprise Migration Suite and Application Migration Service provide the resources, business case, and roadmap for transitioning to an infrastructure that improves IT efficiency and supports your strategic objectives.
It has a long lifecycle
When you install a system, you want to get years of service life out of it. That's why the Solaris life cycle model is designed to let the systems you deploy remain on the same release for a very long time. A Solaris OS release stays on level 1 support for a minimum of seven years; Red Hat Linux releases drop to maintenance support after three years.
The Solaris 10 OS will be on the market for years to come, and supported for years after that. When you want to move to a new release, we're still the first and only company to guarantee application compatibility between releases.

It's powerful
How powerful? Solaris 10 has set over 100 performance records since its release. That's running on small systems, large systems, SPARC systems, x86 systems, single-processor systems, and multicore systems. At Sun, we know how to build systems from one to 144 cores, and we've got just the operating system to run across all of them.
Think how easy it would be to have the same high-performance OS on every system in your datacentre. But don't take our word for it - see what these independent reviewers have to say.
It's cost-effective
Zero-cost licensing, and a range of flexible support offerings at prices lower than Red Hat's. Look what Ning found out when they compared support costs.
With Solaris Subscriptions, you choose the specific level of support you need, for as long as you need it. Free software and automatic updates and patches, guaranteed binary compatibility, and Just in Time Training give you the tools to stay current
It's got the features you need
Just when it seems like other operating systems are taking an innovation break, here come some of the best features seen yet: award-winning DTrace, Solaris Containers, ZFS, Predictive Self-Healing and more. The Solaris 10 OS brings enterprise-class reliability, stability, and performance to commodity systems - and the power of innovation.
